Mapping the distribution of the house cricket presents unique problems because it is commercially available nearly everywhere. This availability (at modest prices) has made house crickets become a favorite food for pet owners, zookeepers, and anglers to offer their insectivorous pets, wards, and quarry. Rather than shade the entire map, two areas, where house crickets are known to be "feral", are shaded (Weissman and Rentz 1977). The shaded areas include only areas where continuously breeding populations are known or suspected. In the east, suitable habitats occur in greenhouse complexes and open landfills.
