eastern ant cricket

Myrmecophilus pergandei

distribution map for Myrmecophilus pergandei
Dots show county records; shaded area shows likely general distribution.
Computer-generated distribution map, produced in 2004 from records in a database available on this site.

The red dots on the map represent locations from observations uploaded to iNaturalist. The red dot with the question mark (Ellsworth County, Kansas), falls in the range of M. nebrascensis, making species identification unsure. Pictures with greater detail, particularly the hind legs, or pictures of the cricket with its symbiont ants, would help in making an identification.

Brandon Woo is responsible for two of the north-most records: Ithaca, NY, July 2017, "one female collected on front stoop of apartment"; and Quincy, MA, September 2013, "one individual collected, found in carpenter ant nest" (seen at same locality in 2017).
