broad-tipped conehead
Neoconocephalus triops

Developmental Stages

Oliver M. Beckers, University of Missouri–Columbia, took these pictures of the development of an individual broad-tipped conehead (Neoconocephalus triops), reared in the laboratory from eggs laid by a female collected in Alachua County, Florida. To make sure that a molt was not missed, he put a dot of paint on each newly molted instar. (When the next molt occurred, the dot was shed along with the cast exoskeleton.)
