Ocellus: (oh-SELL-us) One of two (or one of three) very small, simple eyes on the top of the head of some adult insects. Mole crickets have two (a pair) of them. The plural is ocelli (oh-SELL-ee). Adults of many species have no ocelli, but almost all adults have a pair of compound eyes.
