Master Beekeeper Program
To improve honey bee health and the sustainability of beekeeping globally through beekeeper training and public outreach.
In working towards this overall mission, the UF MBP has two specific goals for program participants. Beekeepers in the UF MBP will:
- learn and adopt research-based beekeeping best management practices, and
- provide research-based education to the non-beekeeping public and serve as mentors to new beekeepers.
- Join the UF MBP!
If you are joining the UF MBP after May 10, 2018, you can begin by registering for and completing the online course for the Apprentice Level. You are encouraged to begin this course before you ever even start beekeeping (although this is not necessary) and to participate in the course throughout your first year in beekeeping.
The second half of the Apprentice Level course is still under construction. As such, only Part 1 is currently available for you to begin. Part 2 will be available by fall, 2018. The registration cost is $125 per part ($250 total for the Apprentice level).
This new program format has revised requirements. Read the details here: UF Master Beekeeper Program Revised Requirements (ONLINE FORMAT)
- Advanced, Master, and Master Craftsman
The UF MBP has historically been structured around two in-person training and testing days annually. Beekeepers who started in the MBP in this in-person format can continue to progress in the program according to the UF MBP Requirements. The in-person format is still available only for the highest three levels of the program (Advanced, Master, and Master Craftsman).
