Song: A penetrating, high-pitched, continuous buzz. Three similar songs may be heard in south Florida: N. palustris (softer) and N. velox and N. maxillosus (other habitats).

Identification: A south Florida conehead that is long and slender, with a cone to match. Length 54-60 mm for males, 62-68 for females.
Similar species: No morphologically similar species occurs in south Florida.
Habitat: Sawgrass everglades.
Season: Spring generation, April–June; Fall generation, September–October.
