Note that each of the two "buzzes" above consists of eight phonatomes (acoustical units that consist of all the sounds made during a cycle of movement
of the stridualatory structures). During each of the phonatome sequences above, the phonatomes increase in intensity and duration. In katydids of this
subfamily, each phonatome generally consists of a softer sound, made as the forewings are moved laterally (opened) followed by a louder sound,
made as the forewings are moved medially (closed).
