Entomologist with B.S. degree in agronomy, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in entomology, 25 years of experience in insect control, 19 years of experience in social insects, control of urban and public health pests, with focus on microbe/insect interactions, and microbial control of insects. Experienced in coordination of large research/demonstration programs in integrated management of fire ants, and development of public health pests. Formally trained and experienced as supervisor of laboratory and field technicians. Experience in coordination of large research/extension programs. Experienced in commercial-scale production and formulation of entomopathogens as biopesticides against insect pests, as well as basic and applied research on insect diseases. Strong communication skills and ability to effectively interact with researchers, stakeholders and general public, both in collaborative research projects and in outreach programs.

-        66 peer-reviewed publications, and 17 book chapters.

-        6 patents on use of entomopathogens for control of fire ants and other insect pests.

-        Coordination of the Deployed War-Fighter Protection (DWFP) research program, a US Department of Defense-sponsored USDA-ARS research project (approx. US$ 1.5 million/year).

-        Coordination of USDA areawide project on integrated management of fire ants (approx. US$ 1 million/year), and development of educational materials on fire ant biological control.

-        2006 USDA-ARS Technology Transfer Award for fire ant areawide project.

-        2006 Federal Laboratory Consortium Southeast Region Honorable Mention for Excellence in Technology Transfer.

-        2005 Achievement Award for Team Research from the Florida Entomological Society for research on first fire ant virus.

-        Development of dual-action (insect and plant pathogen) control using entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana.

-        Development of Beauveria bassiana as a biocontrol agent for fire ants and other pest ants.

-        Discovery of 3 new fire ant diseases in Florida.

-        Establishment of decapitating flies (Pseudacteon curvatus) in western and eastern Tennessee.

-        Participation in the planning retreat for the Federal Interagency Committee on Invasive Terrestrial Animals and Pathogens (ITAP).
