Whitemarked spider beetle, Ptinus fur
(Coleoptera: Anobiidae: Ptininae)

The whitemarked spider beetle is distributed worldwide. The stored product food stuffs it infests ranges considerably (see spider beetles).

Adult are uniformly light to dark brown with the females having two golden patches at the base of the pronotum and two white patches on each wing cover. These latter patches sometimes unite to form bands. The males have erect golden hairs of either side of the pronotal midline. For further details on the life cycle see the description of the spider beetles.
