Definition:

UF/IFAS Mole Cricket Program: A program funded by the Florida Legislature from 1979-1991 to perform basic and applied research on mole crickets. Much of the basic research was published in Florida Agricultural Experiment Station Bulletin 846: Mole crickets in Florida. The program succeeded in establishing populations of three species of biological control agents (Larra bicolor, Steinernema scapterisci, and Ormia depleta) in Florida, of which Ormia depleta now has by far the widest distribution. Since mid-1991, due to decline in state revenues, it no longer exists as a state funded program, although a much more limited amount of research still is in progress.
