Honey Bee Research and Extension Lab

Pollination Ecology

We develop integrated crop pollination principles to improve crop pollination and ecosystem services provided by managed and unmanaged bees. Specifically, we determine the contributions made by bees to the pollination of various cropping systems and work to conserve pollinators through sound ecological principles and understanding.

Current Projects

  • Project ICP – addressing how growers can get adequate pollination (suite of bees, pollinator habitat, economically feasible, companion crops, etc.)
  • Operation Pollinator – investigating the co-existence of modern farming and environmental management in the same field to protect and enhance biodiversity to produce healthy, safe and affordable food.

Guide to HBREL Research

Pollination Ecology investigates the performance, economics, and farmer perceptions of different pollination strategies in various fruit and vegetable crops. We also have two other major research focuses in our lab. Be sure to check those out when you finish browsing this page.
