Lesson plans are correlated to the National Science Education Standards (as well as Florida State Sunshine Standards) and contain instructions for the teacher on conducting the activities, a scripted presentation (containing background information for the teacher) that accompanies the lesson plan, and student activities for reinforcement (including experiential activities, an e-learning module, and accompanying student handouts).
Biodiversity and Plant Biosecurity for Grades 9-12
The lesson plan contains background information on biodiversity, plant biosecurity, how invasives species are introduced, and examples of invasives pests and diseases that have affected both natural and human maintained ecosystems. In addition, the lesson plan talks about the current list of USDA Plant Protection and Quarantine Select Agents and Toxins, what they are, what that means, why the USDA is focusing on them, and what they could do if they are found in this country. Also discussed are examples of former select agents and what we are doing about them now that they are in the country.
