    Distance Education Program Costs

Out-of-State Students

 

The Undergraduate course (3000 and 4000 level courses) tuition is $150 per credit. The Graduate course (5000 level and higher) course tuition is $315 per credit. Laboratory fees vary among the courses, but usually are $15-30 if a fee is charged. Note that tuition charges are subject to change. Note: Purchase of books and course materials are the responsibility of the student. Information about the requirements and recommendations of these materials can be obtained from the instructor, and/or course syllabi (University of Florida Entomology and Nematology Course Syllabi). Out-of-state DO NOT pay tuition through UF Financial Services. Students will receive an email after the semester begins with a special web link to pay tuition.

In-State Students

 

The Undergraduate course (3000 and 4000 level courses) tuition is $108.55 per credit. The Graduate course (5000 level and higher) course tuition is $311.60 per credit. Laboratory fees vary among the courses, but usually are $15-30 if a fee is charged. Note that tuition charges are subject to change. Non-Degree Course Application Procedure

 

- If you are not seeking a graduate degree, or seek only a certificate:

 

1. Complete the online non-degree application. Be sure to select "Agriculture Distance Education" from the special program section. Fill in all the boxes, including the course prefix and number (Example: ENY 3005; see course offerings for listings).

 

2. Enter "send" at the bottom of the form. If you do not get a message that your application has been submitted, you should assume that there is a problem and re-submit. Note that you are required to declare your residency.

 

3. You will receive an email acceptance from the college once your application has been approved. This email will include your UF ID number. Please make note of this number. There will be instructions in this email on how to obtain a Gatorlink account. A Gatorlink account will grant you access to UF libraries, billing (in-state only) and course systems.

 

4. You will be registered for courses by the department. Non-Degree students cannot be registered until two weeks before the start of the semester, so please be patient.

 

5. Once you have been successfully registered, you will be notified by email from the department. Remember, this email should come within two weeks of the start of the semester. If you are concerned about your status, contact the department's academic program office/graduate coordinator by email or phone at (352) 392-1901 ext. 117.

 

6. After you have been accepted by the college, please feel free to contact your course instructor by email or phone regarding purchase and receipt of materials (textbook, CD, etc.), deadlines, etc. If you are uncertain who to contact, or how, contact the department for help.

Title of Program: Master of Science in Entomology

 

Description: The University of Florida's Entomology and Nematology Department offers an off-campus Master of Science degree (normally non-thesis but these programs are available by arrangement) with a concentration in Entomology. Courses are offered via distance education to accommodate place-bound students interested in biological science with emphasis on insects and other arthropods, including extension agents and other educators; state and federal employees in agricultural, environmental and regulatory positions; consultants; pest control industry personnel; and others who want to further their education.

Distance Education Non-Degree Certificate Programs

The Department of Entomology and Nematology offers 3 college credit certificate programs. These certificates are designed for employees of the urban/landscape pest control industry, plant production industries, or other industries where pest management is an important issue, or for individuals who desire to work in these areas.

 

These courses can be taken at either the undergraduate level (courses numbered in the 3000's and 4000's) or graduate level (courses numbered in the 5000's or 6000's). If you anticipate transferring course credits to the distance education MS programs offered by the department (9 graduate level credits are transferable), you should take courses at the graduate level. The graduate level courses, though similar in content to the undergraduate level courses, require additional assignments. Listed below are the recommended courses; others may be substituted with written permission of the department's undergraduate or graduate coordinators. Upon successful completion of the courses (with a C average or better), you will be issued a certificate attesting to your completion of the program.
