5/13/2013 *New*: CTL1 was upgraded to Windows 7; this is a test for the upcoming lab upgrade this summer. Please let Steve know of any issues.

11/14/2005: All CTL Windows machines have now been upgraded to Windows XP and most have had disk protection implemented. The goal is to have disk protection on all machines by year's end.
10/25/2005: CTL8, CTL9 and CTL10 have been upgraded. A reboot is scheduled for 3am each morning which will discard all changes. Make sure you keep copies of work on removable media.
10/12/2005: CTL4, CTL5 and CTL6 have now been upgraded. Like station 2, a reboot will discard all changes. Make sure you keep copies of work on removable media.
9/27/2005: CTL2 upgraded as well. To protect against malware infection, this computer has been configured to discard all changes to the hard drive at reboot. To ensure against file loss, make sure you have saved your files to removable media. USB flash drives are highly recommended. The machine is automatically rebooted for maintenance at 3 am each morning. If tests go well, this model may eventually be used throughout the lab.
9/21/2005: CTL1 upgraded to Windows XP with Office 2003.
9/12/2005: New computer with Arc-GIS software coming to the lab--to replace CTL11
5/1/2005: Installed USB extension cables on Windows machines to facilitate easy access for flash drives
12/28/2004: CTL3 is now running Windows XP and Office 2003. Please let Steve know of any problems. If successful, there will be a slow roll-out of the new configuration across all lab machines over the next few months.
11/19/2004: The CTL is being migrated to the new UFAD system and the lab will be unavailable until sometime Monday the 22nd. Please plan your usage accordingly!
11/25/2003: The 250MB Zip drive on CTL4 failed and was replaced.
7/21/2003: The old HP 8000 printer will be removed. To avoid problems be sure to make the 4300 your default: click the Start button, select Settings, and double-click on Printers; then right-click "HP LaserJet 4300 PCL" and select "Set as default printer".
5/19/2003: A new HP 4300TN printer has been deployed in the CTL and is available for immediate use.
3/27/2003: Endnote upgrade completed. It is now on CTLM, CTL1, CTL2 and CTL3.
3/6/2003: Endnote has been upgraded to version 6 on CTLM. After testing, this will be done on CTL1-3 as well.
1/3/2003: Since a recent Gatorlink server upgrade, versions of Eudora above 5.0 display an SSL error like "configured to reject exchange key length 0 and exchange key is -1". The workaround for this problem is as follows: Open Eudora/Go to Tools, then Options/Click the Checking Mail icon/Set "Secure Sockets when Receiving" to "Never"/Click OK/Close Eudora/Open Eudora again.
12/10/2002: The CTL is reserved for training purposes from 8:00 AM until noon. The room will not be available for general use during this time.
9/30/2002: Faulty HP scanner replaced by new Epson scanner on CTLg.
9/16/2002: IE 6 SP1 plus other security updates applies to all the lab's Windows stations.
7/30/2002: Numerous security updates were completed to all the lab's Windows stations.
6/17/2002: The CTL is reserved for use by Dr. Maruniak's class from 8:30 until noon this Monday thru Thursday. Others will be able to quietly use the lab, space permitting.

1/28/2002: Minitab 13 for Windows has been installed on CTL8, CTL9 and CTL10. This statistical analysis program was installed by popular demand.
1/24/2002: Our film recorder has died; a proposal for replacement is being evaluated.
11/20/2001: SAS was upgraded on CTL8, CTL9 and CTL10 to version 8.1
11/14/2001: New slide scanner was installed on the CTLg graphics station to replace previous failed unit.
10/22/2001: Numerous security updates were completed to all the lab's Windows stations.
8/6/2001: New HP DeskJet 930c color printer installed at station CTL6.
7/9/2001: Adobe Photoshop on the CTLg graphics station was upgraded to version 6.0.1, adding Adobe ImageReady 3.0
4/27/2001: Quicktime Pro was updated to version 5.01 on all Windows stations. The color printer on CTL6 was replaced.
4/12/2001: A webpage has been prepared to assist IAEA course participants in learning to use software in the CTL
4/11/2001: Participants in the IAEA Training Course will be sharing our lab for the next 6 weeks. Email help is now available for course participants!
2/13/2001: Email with subject of "Here you have, ;o)" and a worm attachment named annakournikova.jpg.vbs was sent to all grad students. Do not open! Delete immediately.
1/26/2001: Quicktime Player upgraded to the Pro version on all lab Windows machines. Movies can now be edited as well as viewed.
1/3/2001: Updates for Spring 2001 completed: check out the details. Please let Steve know of any problems.
1/1/2001: Began installing updates of Eudora, DirectCD, Easy CD Creator, Aladdin Expander, and IrfanView. Also am installing Real Player 8 Basic, and PowerArchiver--a freeware file compression utility.
12/29/2000: Faulty memory chip replaced on CTL9

8/21/2000: A solution has been found to the problem of WordPerfect not running under most CTL accounts. The solution must be applied to each account individually. Although this process has begun, it is time consuming and may take several days. Please see Steve Lasley if you are a WordPerfect user and wish to be given priority in this process.
8/12/2000: The CTL's new Windows 2000 machines were rolled out all last night and this morning in a marathon session. Hundreds of hours of planning come to fruition!
8/9/2000: The upcoming replacement of the CTL Mobile computer will mean that this station can no longer utilize our old Epson projector. This essentially obsoletes the Epson except for those providing their own laptops.
8/1/2000: Began moving in new monitors for the CTL Windows stations.
7/22/2000: Maintenance performed on CTL server.
6/21/2000: The slide scanner is back from repair and ready for use.
6/12/2000: The slide scanner is malfunctioning again and has been sent away for warranty repair. Expected repair time: about 2 weeks.
5/24/2000: Reconfigured CTL6 to fix reported operational problems and to apply latest software updates.
5/10/2000: Reconfigured CTL12 to fix file corruption/deletion and to apply latest software updates.
5/4/2000: UF Bug Tutorials added to CTL3, accessible via Start button menu.
4/13/2000: Gatorlink e-mail can now be accessed via the web at "http://webmail.ufl.edu"
4/3/2000: Omnipage optical character recognition scanning software on CTLgrafx upgraded to version 10.0. Please let Steve know of any problems.
3/31/2000: The RAM on all the lab Gateway machines was doubled to improve application performance.
3/8/2000: The slide scanner is back from repair and ready for use.
3/4/2000: The tape backup capacity of the CTL server was successfully increased by a factor of 5x.
2/18/2000: Our new slide scanner has a malfunction and is being returned for repairs. More details as available…
2/10/2000: Larger drives installed on CTL8, CTL9, CTL1 and CTL2 to prevent out of space problems. Various fixes and updates were applied at this time.

1/31/2000: The CTLgrafx station will be unavailable Monday and Tuesday. It is being configured with new scanners and software.
1/20/2000: New slide scanner and new desktop scanner on order for the Windows graphic station, CTLg. The lab is also getting a new iMac specifically for molecular biology teaching.
1/12/2000: Dr. Frank's "primer on writing a scientific paper or dissertation" has been updated
1/7/2000: The Computer Teaching Lab will be closed Friday night at 8 pm until 10 am Saturday due to a planned power outage to the building. Please plan your usage accordingly.
12/8/1999: Our Microtek Slide Scanner on station CTLg is not working. Replacement bulbs are being ordered to see if that fixes the problem.
11/19/1999: Insect slideshows now available from the Entomology Applications windows on those stations having Irfanview (currently CTL1, CTL2, CTL4, CTL5, and CTL8-CTL11).
11/8/1999: CTL stations 1 and 2 were updated. Applications added include IrfanView32, a free multimedia and graphics file viewer utility, and ZipCentral, a free zip and unzip utility. ImageCast 3 was installed to facilitate drive management and restoration.

9/17/1999: CTL printer jamming on tray 3. Warranty repair is scheduled for early next week. In the meantime, please keep this tray empty.

9/6/1999: Computer lab was closed all day to permit a complete backup of accounts and restoration to a new larger disk volume.
9/3/1999: Problems with CTL12 traced to faulty floppy drive; problems now resolved.
8/13/1999: Added new method to "Contact the CTL Staff" with user messages being both emailed and stored in a database.
8/10/1999: Added method for viewing "New additions to the CTL Software" within the CTL Software Directory.
8/9/1999: Software and configuration changes made to CTLgrafx. PhotoShop upgraded to 5.0.2, CorelDraw to 8.433, DeltaGraph to 4.05d, and Microsoft Internet Explorer to 5.0.
8/6/1999: CTLfaq table of contents now ordered by frequency of access with recent (within 1 month) additions/revisions given top billing and marked as "new".
