- 11/14/2005
- All CTL Windows machines have now been upgraded to Windows XP and most have had disk protection implemented. The goal is to have disk protection on all machines by year's end.

- CTL8, CTL9 and CTL10 have been upgraded. A reboot is scheduled for 3am each morning which will discard all changes. Make sure you keep copies of work on removable media.

- CTL4, CTL5 and CTL6 have now been upgraded. Like station 2, a reboot will discard all changes. Make sure you keep copies of work on removable media.

- CTL2 upgraded as well. To protect against malware infection, this computer has been configured to discard all changes to the hard drive at reboot. To ensure against file loss, make sure you have saved your files to removable media. USB flash drives are highly recommended. The machine is automatically rebooted for maintenance at 3 am each morning. If tests go well, this model may eventually be used throughout the lab.

- Installed USB extension cables on Windows machines to facilitate easy access for flash drives

- CTL3 is now running Windows XP and Office 2003. Please let Steve know of any problems. If successful, there will be a slow roll-out of the new configuration across all lab machines over the next few months.

- The CTL is being migrated to the new UFAD system and the lab will be unavailable until sometime Monday the 22nd. Please plan your usage accordingly!

- The 250MB Zip drive on CTL4 failed and was replaced.

- The old HP 8000 printer will be removed. To avoid problems be sure to make the 4300 your default: click the Start button, select Settings, and double-click on Printers; then right-click "HP LaserJet 4300 PCL" and select "Set as default printer".

- A new HP 4300TN printer has been deployed in the CTL and is available for immediate use.

- Endnote upgrade completed. It is now on CTLM, CTL1, CTL2 and CTL3.

- Endnote has been upgraded to version 6 on CTLM. After testing, this will be done on CTL1-3 as well.

- Since a recent Gatorlink server upgrade, versions of Eudora above 5.0 display an SSL error like "configured to reject exchange key length 0 and exchange key is -1". The workaround for this problem is as follows: Open Eudora/Go to Tools, then Options/Click the Checking Mail icon/Set "Secure Sockets when Receiving" to "Never"/Click OK/Close Eudora/Open Eudora again.

- A solution has been found to the problem of WordPerfect not running under most CTL accounts. The solution must be applied to each account individually. Although this process has begun, it is time consuming and may take several days. Please see Steve Lasley if you are a WordPerfect user and wish to be given priority in this process.

- The CTL's new Windows 2000 machines were rolled out all last night and this morning in a marathon session. Hundreds of hours of planning come to fruition!

- The upcoming replacement of the CTL Mobile computer will mean that this station can no longer utilize our old Epson projector. This essentially obsoletes the Epson except for those providing their own laptops.

- Our Microtek Slide Scanner on station CTLg is not working. Replacement bulbs are being ordered to see if that fixes the problem.

- Insect slideshows now available from the Entomology Applications windows on those stations having Irfanview (currently CTL1, CTL2, CTL4, CTL5, and CTL8-CTL11).
