Research and Teaching Responsibilities

• Medical and Veterinary Entomologist: Research, teaching, and support to extension on the survey, biology, host parasite interaction, and control of arthropods affecting animals.

• Areas of Specialization:
  • Economic damage caused by arthropods of domestic animals.
    
  • Host parasite interactions and semiochemical control of blood feeding arthropods.

Accomplishments

• Students directed: MS-22; Ph.D.-18; Research projects last 5 years (1991-1996)
• Regional research project #FLA-ENY-03592 "Physiological and Ecological Relationships Affecting Biting Flies and Ticks on Pastured Cattle" 1996-2001. New to science repellent extracts produced from animals have been obtained and compared to natural plant repellent extracts for control of flies on cattle.
• Research project "Evaluation of semiochemicals as attractants and repellents for house flies and other arthropods" from 1983-97. Patents issued on this project cover new to science attractants, repellents (300+), and basic test equipment for flies, mosquitoes and other arthropods. A total of 63 patents have been issued to date and include the countries of, the United States, Canada, EUC, Australia, and Israel.
• Forensic Entomology consulting for state, federal and foreign law enforcement agencies.
